Spend Valentines Day in Pajamas

Ask anyone what's the most romantic attire they could think of, and they'll come up with the same answer: lingerie. Yup, those skimpy, silky and barely there creations will win the fight hands down. It's a safe bet then that lingerie sales will go up this Valentines Day as couples shop for romantic valentines gifts.

The view that 'lingerie is the most romantic attire' may have been unshakeable fact before, but it's no longer solid truth to take to the bank. You don't have to be in Victoria's Secret to fire up the romance.

Here's a thought: pajamas are actually the most romantic get-up in the planet! If you're interested in showing that you care, give your girl a pair of pajamas.

It's not about fashion. Sure, pajamas can be sexy too, especially if they are made of satin or silk, and are cut just right. Modern makers of sleepwear have even started racy pajama lines. But even loose, wholesome, cotton jammies can set the mood.

Here's why:

Think breakfast in bed. Instead of going out Valentines Day, why don't the two of cancel all your appointments and reservations? Decide that February 14 is the one sacred day that the two of you should devote to one another. No distractions, no interruptions, just a normal day with a special person. No rushing to eat breakfast because the bus is already on its way. No scurrying about to do the laundry.

Bring up a breakfast tray early in the morning and eat in bed. You can serve your simple, everyday fare: toast, cheese and scrambled eggs. But even this ordinary menu can be impressive; just throw in a long-stemmed rose and a bar of dark chocolate.

Eat only from one plate; share it in companionable silence. Maybe turn on the TV and watch the early morning news. And while on any other day you two are up and dressed by 6am, this time you can afford to be laid back. Get out of bed only when you two decide you want to. No other priority exists except spending time with each another.

What's great about not subscribing to the pop notion that Valentines Day is about the fire, the pizzazz and the big to-do's, is that it keep things in perspective. If you've been together for awhile, you know what romance really means. It's deciding as a couple that you want to spend your lives together. You may have had moments of annoyance over the years, perhaps even some intense fights, but the end of the day the two of you sleep together to wake up together. This reality is one of the most priceless things in the world.

So at the end, what does spending Valentines Day in your pajamas mean? That even for once every year you can put aside the demands of the day and just stay and be with the one that you love. You two are comfortable together. You've built a relationship together. No need for flashy clothes or bad pick-up lines.
